Alumna Awarded Women In Aerospace’s Special Achievement Award

Women in Aerospace has recognized electrical engineering alumna
Amanda (Martin) Zuber with the special achievement award for her
contributions to the aerospace industry and the advancement of
women in the career field. She was recognized at a special
ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Zuber, an Air Force captain, is field program manager for the
military's Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) and Mobile User
Objective System (MUOS). In this role, she oversaw the
preparation and launch of a satellite that's part of the SBIRS
satellite group, one of the nation's highest-priority space
programs. The group provides timely, reliable and accurate
missile warning information to the President, the Secretary of
Defense, military commanders and multiple intelligence agencies
within the government.
According to her nomination packet, Zuber displayed an "innate
ability to logically work through problems while seeking out the
win-win outcome to situations made her the perfect selection as the
FPM for SBIRS, resulting in the launch of a revolutionary new
ballistic missile defense capability for the United States."
Zuber earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in
2004 and was commissioned as a graduate of the Air Force ROTC
program at Indiana State University. She has served in a
variety of acquisitions assignments with Air Force Space Command
and Air Force Materiel Command.
Zuber began her career in the Air Force Research Laboratory's
Sensors Directorate at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton,
Ohio. She held many positions in the Sensors Directorate,
including target/threat analysis engineer and target signature
production lead in the Signature and Modeling Branch, program
manager for advanced target recognition in the Find Fix Track &
ID Branch and the combat identification demonstration test lead in
the Combat ID Division.
Prior to becoming the field program manager for SBIRS and MUOS,
Zuber was the chief of unit training for the 45th Launch Support
Squadron at the Air Force's Cape Canaveral (Fla.) launch site,
serving as the officer-in-charge of training and certification for
78 multi-disciplined military and civilian personnel. She has
received the Air Force's commendation medal, achievement medal and
global war on terrorism service medal.
