Rose-Hulman Touted as One of America’s Top Engineering Colleges
July 27, 2011
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has again been included in
the Fiske Guide to Colleges and has been singled out as
one of America's top technical institutes for engineering
education. The guide asserts that only Caltech, Clarkson and
Harvey Mudd schools are comparable to Rose-Hulman's academic
intimacy and technical environment.
"Rose-Hulman offers the rare combination of technical education
and personal attention," the guide states.
The Rose-Hulman Ventures program is featured and the guide
specifically identifies Rose-Hulman's commitment to
innovation. It pointed out that the college was the first
private college to offer an undergraduate degree in chemical
engineering and that Rose-Hulman "continues to innovate today."
"Rose offers an outstanding technical background and bright
prospects for future employment," the guide boasts.
In fact, 95 percent of Rose-Hulman's Class of 2011 already has
found post-graduate destinations after gaining full-time employment
positions, planning to attend graduate school or earning military
commissions at the time of graduation.
Prospects are more than just numbers. The guide comments
that it's the type of student that makes the difference at
Rose-Hulman.
"Students are smart, motivated and highly competitive, and love
using their computers for work and play," the guide states.
The guide also takes into consideration social life and the
nature of students when comparing schools. It states: "If
you're envisioning Rose-Hulman students as pasty-faced lab
dwellers, you're sorely misinformed. Sixty-two percent of
students participate in intramurals."
Rose-Hulman's many positive factors translate into a quality
education. As the guide boasts, "Students committed to
careers in engineering or the sciences will find a topflight
education at this Midwestern technical school."
The Fiske Guide to Colleges was started in 1980 by Edward Fiske,
former education editor of The New York Times. He also
authors the Fiske Guide to Getting Into the Right College,
the Fiske Countdown to College, and the Fiske Real
College Essays That Work.
