We welcome and admire students
who have taken the initiative to pursue college-level
challenges
Rose-Hulman realizes that college credit received prior to
full-time college attendance offers wonderful growth and
educational opportunities. It may allow a student to progress at a
faster pace, take additional courses, make a co-op or internship
opportunity easier to pursue or graduate early.
The four most common ways students acquire credit before classes
begin at Rose-Hulman are:
- The College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Program
- The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program
- Rose-Hulman Credit by Examination
- Transfer of College Credit
The following are the AP examinations, scores and equivalent credit
awarded by Rose-Hulman.

International Baccalaureate Program
The International Baccalaureate Program (IB) is recognized by
Rose-Hulman as an outstanding opportunity for advanced college
credit. In general, students who receive a score of "5" or better
on an IB examination will receive credit for the corresponding
course at Rose-Hulman.
Rose-Hulman Credit by Examination
A student who believes he has a particular strength in a subject
area, but was not able to take AP or IB courses or did not receive
a high-enough score on a placement exam, may arrange for placement
examinations at Rose-Hulman. These exams are scheduled by
appointment with the appropriate department chairperson and, on the
basis of the results, a student may be offered credit or advanced
standing.
Transfer of College Credit
Credit from another accredited college or university can be
transferred to Rose-Hulman if a comparable course is available in
the Rose-Hulman curriculum. A final grade of "C" or higher must
have been earned for the credit to transfer. The appropriate
department chairperson at Rose-Hulman is the final authority in
determining the acceptability of course credit transfer. Coursework
